A well-stocked kitchen can make the decision between cooking a healthy meal at home or running out for fast food or take-out. Here are some staples for the pantry that should always be on the grocery list and in your kitchen, so preparing snacks and planning meals is simple and convenient.

For the Refrigerator
Pre-cooked chicken and meats - already grilled or steamed. Ready to add to pasta, salads, stews, stir frys, and fajitas.

Pre-cut vegetables and fruits - found in the fresh produce section of supermarket. Veggies are perfect for stir frys and pastas. Fruits are ready for snacking, salads or smoothies.

Shredded cheeses - found in the cheese or deli section of supermarket. Great way to save time when making your favorite Italian and Mexican dishes.

Fresh dips and salsas - found in cheese and meat sections of supermarket. Can spice up sandwiches, raw vegetables, crackers, pasta, and baked potatoes. Store in freezer or refrigerator for last minute get-togethers, meals and snacks.

Pizza and bread dough - found in the freezer or refrigerator section of supermarket. Let each family member create their own meal with lots of healthy topping options.

Dairy Products
Choose pasteurized, whole milk and dairy products for those under 5 years old. Some pediatricians say to cut back on whole milk products as young as 3 years old, and introduce low and skim milk options. Be sure to check dates on packages to be sure you’re getting the freshest and longest lasting.

Yogurt - particularly plain yogurt which you can add your own fruit and purees. For those under one year, be sure the yogurt is made from whole milk and active cultures. Soy yogurt is an option for those who are lactose intolerant. Plain yogurt is also a good base for salad dressings, smoothies, sauces and a healthy alternative to sour cream for topping baked potatoes, and Mexican foods.

Milk - you may have a few different types of milk (whole, low fat and non-fat) for family members based on age and diet. Soy and rice milk are also good alternatives, especially for those with allergies and lactose intolerance. Have on hand for drinking, making smoothies and baking.

Cheeses - soft cream cheese makes great dips and spreads for all ages. Adding calcium to your family’s diet is as easy as sprinkling fresh parmesan over pastas and vegetables. Cheddar cheese is always welcome for sandwiches and homemade macaroni and cheese. Cottage, ricotta and goat cheeses can be part of a healthy meal or snack. Pre-shredded and grated cheeses are very convenient for Italian and Mexican favorites.

Eggs - eggs can make all kinds of quick meals by themselves - omelets, egg salad, frittatas and quiches. Some kids think “breakfast for dinner” is a fun family meal. Choose cage free and organic for the least exposure to harmful bacteria.

For the Freezer
Fresh is usually best for taste and nutrients, however frozen can be convenient stand-by. Frozen items such as peas and blueberries make convenient finger foods for older babies and toddlers. Frozen poultry, meats and fish will create all kinds of meals.

Don’t forget to use the freezer for left-overs and storage to create your own convenient “frozen dinners”. Your baby’s purees, as well as sauces and broths store beautifully in ice cube trays and zip top bags.

For the Pantry
Dried Foods
Bread, grains and pastas are good sources of carbohydrates that can be the basis for a quick and healthy meal. Some dried beans and legumes require more cooking time and preparation but are economical and healthy.

Pasta - this can be any shape or size, so you’re ready to make spaghetti, lasagna, macaroni and cheese, udon, and soups. Best choices are egg-less noodles for those under 12 months and wheat semolina for those over 12 months.

Dried Grains - these include couscous, quinoa, polenta and risotto. These make good side dishes to meats and fish dishes as well as appropriate main dish with steamed vegetables or stews. A good staple for Indian and Mediterranean dishes.

Beans and legumes - these include lentils, red kidney beans, garbanzo beans, black beans, and white beans. You’re prepared for healthy dips such as hummus and black bean, as well as side dishes, soups and salads.

Breads - including pita, multi-grain, lavosh, bagels, and tortillas. Different breads allow for various stuffings. Create healthy pizzas, burritos, wraps, sandwiches and more.

Rice - infant rice for first meals and to mix in with vegetable and fruit purees. Brown rice makes a good and healthy companion for Asian stir fry, and Mexican dishes.

Dried fruits - these are great healthy snacks alone, as well as good mix-ins for yogurt, granola, oatmeal, and cottage cheese.

Breakfast cereals - these include muesli, granola, low sugar cereals, oat bran, wheat germ, and oatmeal. It’s also easy to make your own cereal mix by simply combining your favorite grains such as rolled oats, toasted wheat germ, and oat bran with dried fruit.

Canned and Jarred Foods
Some canned foods are high in fat, sodium and sugar, but many are also high in nutritional value. Check the labels to identify those with the least additives. These include: light tuna in water, organic natural nut butters, all-fruit spread, beans, and tomatoes. Be sure to thoroughly rinse canned beans and vegetables to eliminate extra sodium and oils. Remember low sodium broths and stocks for poaching and boiling meats and vegetables, as well as creating your own soups.

Condiments and Spices
A good supply of bottled sauces, condiments, oils, herbs and spices will allow for lots of creativity. Ingredients such as naturally brewed soy sauce, mustards, ketchup, salad dressings, tomato paste, and Worcheshire give flavor to many dishes as well as create many dips and sandwich spread options.
Use healthy oils such as olive and canola for cooking and baking as well as preparing dressings and marinades. Vinegars such as balsamic are also a good way to add flavor. Remember to refrigerate after opening.

Herbs and spices are best when fresh, but even dried can wake-up a boring food. If possible buy whole herbs and grind them yourself (a clean coffee grinder works well) for maximum flavor.

This is the second of our two part series on what causes high blood pressure. In this part we’re going to discuss what causes secondary high blood pressure in detail.

Secondary high blood pressure is the less common form of high blood pressure with only 5% of reported cases suffering from this type which is caused by a disorder of specific organ of the body such as the kidney, adrenal gland or aortic artery.

Diseases of the kidney can be a cause of secondary high blood pressure. This is called renal hypertension because it is caused by problems with the kidneys. One of the more important and common causes of renal hypertension is the narrowing of the artery that supplies blood to the kidneys. In younger people the narrowing is caused mostly by a thickening of the wall of the arteries leading to the kidneys. In older people mostly, it is caused by a build up fat plaques that block the renal artery.

The reason that the narrowing of the artery causes hypertension is because, first, the narrowing restricts the flow of blood to the kidneys. The reduced blood supply then causes the kidney to produce the hormones, renin and angiotensin. These hormones, along with aldosterone from the adrenal gland, cause a constriction and increased stiffness in the peripheral arteries throughout the whole body, which finally results in high blood pressure.

A doctor will usual suspect renal hypertension when high blood pressure is discovered in a young person or if a new onset of high blood pressure is detected in an older person.

Another cause of secondary high blood pressure is adrenal gland tumors. There are two types of tumors and both are very rare but do occur. Both of these tumors cause the adrenal glands to produce excessive hormones which is the cause of the high blood pressure.

Another cause of secondary high blood pressure, which is usually inherited, is Coarctation of the aorta. This is a common cause of hypertension among young children. The condition is causes by a narrowing segment of the aorta, which is the main large artery that comes out of the heart. The aorta is responsible for delivering blood to all the organs of the body. The narrowing segment is usually above the renal arteries. This narrowing reduces blood flow to the kidneys.

Other genetic factors make up what is called the “metabolic syndrome”. People that have metabolic syndrome have insulin resistance and a tendency to have type 2 diabetes. This is another contributing factor to secondary high blood pressure.

Then there is the problem with obesity. People who are obese have elevated levels of blood fat, vascular inflammation, endothelial dysfunction and ultimately high blood pressure. The epidemic of obesity, especially in the United States, is one of the main causes of high blood pressure today.

Now that we basically know the main causes of high blood pressure, in future articles we’re going to discuss how to treat this disease and keep it under control.

Are humans different from all other higher-order mammals in the animal kingdom? Do humans warrant a separate and unique category? Are humans themselves different by way of breeds? Should we classify each breed or now that the world is closer together are humans so inter-mingled that they are all becoming one?

Well considering these questions and the need for further scrutiny of the subject experimentation should be completed and so my questions would be;

1.) Are most all humans animals?

2.) Does a very small subset of humans have something extra making them different? (enough different to warrant a separate classification?)

I am not concerned personally why some humans may refuse to believe that we are not all created equal, as I believe this would be due to education teachings. Nor am I concerned (personally) why some humans refuse to consider that they are just animals, as this is an issue of religious indoctrination and/or ego without observational data. I see you are concerned with your data being messed up due to the preconceived notions of participants in an experiment.

Now then my question that I would most like answered is in number two, what is the difference, is it an extra gene, a difference in DNA, blood type, what, brain formation, is it a genetic defect, or a positive enhancement? I sense difference and that is my observation without ego. I would like to have my answer. But to do so, we can only use the top 1% and test them. But my question in the testing is what are we testing for? I do not know, but suspect the answer or a couple of possibilities.

Should humans dare to seek these answers? Should humans further probe for the truth? Will we like what we discover or will it shock us in our own ego-centric belief systems? Are you willing to seek the answers? Consider all this in 2006.

There are tons of rocks on our property. Different sizes and shapes. We started collecting these and started using acrylic paint to paint them.

Our favorite rocks to paint are “lady bugs”. This is a very simple craft to do, simple, fun, and easy for both children and adults.

You need:

- rocks

- acrylic paint (which usually costs no more than $1.50, one bottle will paint a lot of rocks)

- clear varnish

Steps in painting:

- We first paint the entire rock black.

- We then paint the sides of the rock (in half circles) red or yellow (or whatever color you have)

- Once the sides are dry, we then go back and put a few black circles on the color portion.

- We then paint in some eyes and a smile.

- In addition, we usually write a saying on the bottom, for example, smile, be happy, live life, have fun, etc.

- Once we have completed we put a coat of clear varnish on them to protect them.

Total cost to make is less than $.50 (depending on the size of the rock)

We have found both adults and children love these rocks. Children love to play with them. Adults use them to put in their gardens, or just to have as an ornament.

Let your imagination soar, you can paint literally anything on rocks, from your favorite sayings to pictures.

Let your imagination go with these rocks! Happy Painting!

Are you in love with the warm rich look of wood floors? You aren’t alone, wood floors have steadily increased in popularity over the last five years. They can be found in new construction as well as in homes undergoing renovations. So what’s driving this trend toward wood floors? Actually it isn’t just one factor, there are two very important factors. One is wood flooring technology and the other one is affordability. Both are remarkably connected. Advances in wood flooring technology have made it possible for just about anybody to afford the look of wood without the hefty price tag. Not so long ago one would expect to pay a small fortune to have wood floors installed. The materials alone were three to five times as expensive as other flooring options such as carpet or tile. Keep in mind that solid hardwood floors are still quite expensive but homeowners now have options in the forms of engineered woods and laminates.

In order to make a sound decision regarding your future floors you will need to know a few things. First you will need to understand the differences between solid wood, engineered wood and laminates. Then you will need to determine if you are qualified to install the flooring yourself or if you will need to outsource the labor. Finally you will need to outline what your flooring budget is and which wood flooring option best suits your current financial requirements.

Types of Wood Flooring

Solid wood is without a doubt the most luxurious and most expensive. Typically you can buy this wood in a variety of thicknesses like 3/4 and 3/8 inch in strips or multi-strip planks which are nailed to a wood or plywood sub-floor. As with engineered and laminate woods the multi-strip planks are precision cut to make installation easier and faster. A benefit that is seen in lower labor costs. Solid woods have a characteristic called hardness which is the degree to which the wood can withstand dents. Stability of a natural wood floor is it’s ability to withstand changes in states due to contraction and expansion. Natural solid woods are graded from select to rustic. The more select the wood the less the notable flaws such as knots or color variations. A top-notch premium select wood is expected to have a clear grain and uniform coloring.

Engineered or laminate wood is a man-made strip or plank made from laminations of wood cuttings from one or more species. With advances in technology these woods can be as hardy and stable as solid woods. Some can even be sanded down and refinished in the same fashion as solid wood. This is a viable and fashionable option for those who want the look of wood without the price tag. Engineered woods have evolved quite a bit in the last decade and now it is virtually impossible to tell the difference between solid wood and engineered wood by just looking. Engineered woods also come in every style of wood available in its natural counter-part .

Characteristics of Wood Flooring with Regards to Decorating

    Wood Species
We are all familiar with the common woods; maple, oak, cherry, pine and walnut but exotics are rapidly replacing these tried and true wood species. Expect to see more woods with names like Brazilian Cherry, rosewood, purple heart, Bolivian Teak, mahogany, bamboo and cork gracing the floors of homes throughout the United States.

    Color
The color temperature of wood can range from the cool end to the warmest end of the spectrum . Color choices range from the blondest woods to the deepest black walnut.

    Graining
The tighter the grain of the wood the more smooth the texture of the wood. Conversely the more dispersed the grain the rougher the texture of the wood.

    Layout
The direction the wood is laid in can create an optical illusion. If you want to create the appearance of a larger room then setting the wood flooring diagonally will achieve that goal. To direct the eye to look first in and then out or across the room lay the flooring in narrow strips running in one direction.

    Pattern
Wood flooring is now available in the patterns from the simplest to the most complex. All visual treats that add a unique and custom feel to your home.

    Finish
Most wood finishes are either matte or glossy. There are varying degrees of matte and glossy to suit every decorating taste and style.

INSTALLATION
In general if you have a large area to cover and you are faced with complex room layouts then you should seek out a professional floor installer. For solid wood floor installations the expertise of a professional is highly recommended. Most engineered woods or laminate woods are created with the do-it-yourself in mind. They typically are very easy to install however having said that if you are faced with a floor that is not perfectly square or even (is there one?) then you may find yourself in a tough situation which will require cutting the wood to fit. If you don’t feel comfortable measuring and cutting the wood and possibly making mistakes then you should seek a professional installer to lay your engineered wood. It may be a bit expensive in the short term but in the long term you will save money by avoiding the additional purchase of another bundle or two of wood to replace the ones you butchered.

BUDGET
Decide what you can afford for both materials and labor and then add 15% to that total to give you your most likely budget costs. Shop around and compare. Keep doing that until you find the flooring that fits your style and budget.

One of the most crucial mistakes I made when I first started Internet Marketing was not completely understand the importance of proper back linking, anchor tags, keywords and the title tag. The most important things to search engines is providing relevancy to search results using keywords in the anchor tags and back links. Back links to your website has become one of the most or if not important aspects to better Search Engine Result Positioning (SERP) using your keywords in your anchor tags.

One of the most common mistakes that I personally made with my website was in the title was:

Title: Succeed Online with ES-Solution

The problem with that title was; What does that have to do with my website and keywords? Search Engines base a lot of importance on the keywords and the anchor tag contained in the back link. Additionally, I submitted my website to many directories and search engines using that title. What I am telling the search engines? That my most important keyword or keyword phrase is “Succeed Online with ES-Solution.” How many possible searchs do you believe would have that exact phrase or keywords? Zero.

My rankings for my keyword phrase “Internet Marketing eBooks” were even more horrible!

Steps to avoiding this same mistake:

Step 1: Never using a descriptive title

Step 2: Choose the most relevant Keywords for your Title

Step 3: Create back links using the appropriate anchor tag.

My actions:

1. I changed my title to “Internet Marketing eBooks”. Another important idea behind your title and keywords is that the search engines will shift around your keywords to make more phrases. I only have 3 Keywords but using different combination, I have 3 good keyword pharses:

(1) Internet Marketing eBooks (2) Marketing eBooks (3) Internet Marketing

2. And I began re-submiting my website to directories and search engines with the proper title (anchor tag): “Internet Marketing eBooks”

My results:

(1) I have several back links with the anchor text “Internet Marketing eBooks”, but unfortunately I still have some of the old back links with the anchor text “Succeed on with ES-Solution” dropping my overall relevancy to 54% when it should be 100%.

(2) I have managed to achieve the number one ranking as of 6 December 2005 for the keyword phrase “Internet Marketing eBooks” in MSN and the number two ranking in Yahoo.
