There are three vital stages to video production; pre-production (storyboarding, scripting, creating a shot list), production (filming stage) and post production (editing, grading footage and adding VFX). Editing is a significant component in rendering the final video. The editing process takes the collected amounts of recorded footage and trims it down (by cutting, slicing, overlaying and trimming) into a masterlyfinal product. On a fundamental level, video editing is the process of reconstructing or transformingclips of video to form part of an entire sequence. The mission of video editing is the same as in film editing - the removal of unwanted footage, isolation of desired footage and arrangement of that footage in time to create a consistent and continuous final sequence (called the “final cut”).

Until just recently video editing was only feasible with the help of expensive equipment and a generous amount of training. In the traditional “non-linear” editing days Quadruplex videotape was edited by visualising the recorded track with Ferro fluid and physically cutting the film with a razor blade or guillotine cutter and grafting it with tape. In this day and age, modern non-linear editing systems use video which is digitally captured onto a hard drive from an analogue or digital video source. On the other hand, despite the end of “linear” editing and introduction of these “non linear” editing systems, video editing still works with the same necessary principles of motion picture film editing.

With advancements in computers and technology, video editing is a persistently changing environment, maintainedby the constant development of new hardware and software. Computer video editing software, also known as Non Linear Editing (NLE) composedof application software which handles the entire process of editing video sequences. Using software such as Sony Vegas, Apple’s Final Cut Pro and Adobe’s Premiere, footage is first recorded natively into the suitable codec and stored on the computer (this stage is known as “capturing”). The footage is then logged, i.E. The editor makes note of the scene, shot number, take number and any additional information. It is then arranged in folders (”bins”), which is where relevant clips (if they are part of the same scene) are grouped all together. Once this stage is completed the editor moves on to the actual cutting of the footage.

NLE software is mainly based on a timeline interface where clips are dragged onto a video track and laid out in sequence. They incorporate a range of tools for trimming, splicing, cutting and arranging clips across the timeline. As digital NLE systems have changed there are now features for colour manipulation, title animation and visual effects, also including tools for mixing audio. After the Clips have been arranged on the timeline, music tracks and titles added and special effects formed, the final sequence is “rendered” into a finished video. The video is then spread in a various number of ways such as DVD, Blue-ray, web streaming (QuickTime h.264, flv) or even mobile devices (like iPod’s, Blackberry’s).

There are so many different frequencies emanating from so many different devices, organic life and even the Earth itself that it is difficult to detect all these waves. In the battlespace we often are able to detect enemy frequencies and often pinpoint their origin and thus able to target that electromagnetic signature. Unfortunately our systems often do the same.

One tactic used to stop the enemy from communicating is to use an electromagnetic burst to take out all electronic devices. Yet in doing so you lose your ability to see the enemy’s emissions and possible electromagnetic signatures to target them. Of course in doing so your enemy has lost their ability to communicate and thus you have slowed down their reaction time and ability to fight, hopefully you have also helped in diminishing their will to fight as well.

We can make vision devices which will allow us too see those spectrums that the human eye currently cannot see and then we can see where those waves are the most dense and thus indicate where they are emanating from and therefore a potential target. Since we will know which waves are within the frequencies bands we use, we will most likely have a good idea which are friendly and which are foe.

All those from the bad guys will be eliminated first and then those, which are similar or could be eavesdropping waves, will be looked at in greater detail before firing upon. It may also allow us to discover signals, which are being acquired or hacked of our own systems and thus allow us to provide the enemy with misdirection to get them to make a move, which will serve our will.

Either way we need more R and D monies in these visual energy and communication wave systems for soldiers in the form of handheld devices for the modern battlespace. Think on this in 2006.

When we go to other planets and decide to make a colony on those planets we will need to be totally self-sustaining. In other words we will need to grow our own food and make our own oxygen and make sure there is water. We will also need power for heating as well. To do all this we may have to do some Terra Forming, yet some say; Don’t you mean “Terra Farming?”

Recently a gentleman in an online forum think tank stated: It is terra farming! It is not “forming”, but “farming”! His reasoning was that we would be farming to grow food and this he further stated that;

“This is the art of cultivating a barren planet to try to make it support life. As an example, suppose in 50 yrs human beings succeed in going to Jupiter. But unfortunately, we find out that there is no life on that planet. We can decide to introduce life on it by terra farming it, that is transplanting earthly vegetation, livestock and human population over there! By so doing, we’ll terra-farm Jupiter.”

Actually the word has come to be used as Terra-Forming, although you could be right with regards to the origin of the word. NASA uses it this way:

Although as Sir Arthur C. Clarke has used it both ways in various books of his, it appears that you could have terra forming, without terra farming. With all the satellite radio users out there and all the radio waves coming in perhaps we should use this as a background pattern like a radar grid. Thus if there is a disruption passing thru like an airliner, well we have a back up system in case our radar systems go down.

If there is an unidentified flying object, which shows up as a disruption anomaly with this field in an area, which is not a known flight path trajectory for airlines or military then we should start tracking it; because it could indeed be a threat to our national security.

Additionally using anomalies from several sources such as data coming back from high-tech weather satellites, Department of Defense radar systems and commercial satellite assets. No sense in launching an ICBM anti-missile at a meteorite coming in and burning up in the atmosphere or a piece of space junk falling out of low-orbit.

We need to have multiple data sets to determine exactly what something is, exactly how fast it is traveling and exactly what threat it could potentially be. By having more data, along with our top of the line super computers, we also can increase our kill rate chances of shooting down any potential threat. So I hope you will consider all this in 2006.

One great revelation in the aerospace industry is designing wings, which create small cyclone airflows over the wing. The mini-horizontal Tornadoes “suck” the wing up ward as the airflows go over the top of the surface. Now then in speaking of such induced above wing turbulence and vortex eddies a though had occurred. I had an idea and concept of creating a pre-leading edge devices, that would pop out from the leading edge of an aircraft and there would be 30 per wing.

These protruding devices would pop out and stick up from the top of the leading edge about 8-10 inches at a 22 degree angle with a shape which started a violent vortex rotation of the relative wind over the wing. Used for take off and landing, instead of or in addition to slats. This would improve lift and allow us to shorten the wings and thus allow for better high-speed characteristics and less parasite drag. This also means less weight for the aircraft, which would translate to fuel economy. Less fuel needed for intended range would increase useful load and thus make the entire project worthy of further investigation and prototype development to prove concept? Think on this.
