Volunteering; building a community bond, and assisting your local needy. However, finding the right timeslot for this kind of event is often a bit difficult, and let’s not forget that this in itself is free time better used to actually work. Obviously, when you volunteer as part of a team effort with co-workers, it will be far more fun. Consequently, a number of companies are making themselves into organizing points to help their employees work for the community through volunteer activities. One of the more significant examples is Adaptive Marketing LLC who developed financial benefits programs like DealMax (MVQ*DLMAX) to consumers. If you think about company sponsored charitable effort, you probably think of giving blood, perhaps an annual call for donations, but this is simply no longer true. Looking at a specific company, Adaptive Marketing has offered staff a chance to help with anything from shoe recycling campaigns to local tree planting events. Once all the relevant information - date, location, time, details, etc. - had been prominently displayed it is a simple matter for employees to work out how much time they could give and how they’d be using it.

It’s essential to let volunteers select programs that fit their interests. Companies involved in this like Adaptive Marketing, offer their staff a diverse list of events in their area. Once you start looking for things to do you see so many, after all; working with children and young adults, assisting with environmental activities, or supporting local artistic projects among others. Adaptive Marketing’s members of staff are certain to choose something they enjoy to volunteer for, making their time fun as well as fulfilling.

Typically a company sponsored volunteer program - getting involved with a local school, for example, or assisting at a homeless shelter - is either for a one-off event or on a regular schedule in pursuit of a bigger goal. Regardless of how little time you can spare, there’s going to be some project to suit, which means time is no obstacle to charitable work.

Business history is full of examples of firms giving back to the citizens of their hometown. Community goodwill is generated by the volunteer work done by Adaptive Marketing’s staff, and the staff of companies like it, over the course of company supported initiatives like those outlined earlier. Helping around your hometown makes you feel like a better person - just the sort of thing to motivate staff members both in their regular work and their volunteer activities, too. Helping your staff to find the time to volunteer is beneficial in some very concrete ways, as we hope we’ve shown.

Gregory Narick, a 19-year-old Douglass man who has posted materials on his MySpace site about his fascination with guns, was sentenced to house arrest by Montgomery County Judge William J. Furber Jr. Although he was able to get himself out of charges of menacing and assaulting using a rifle. The house arrest will not be an easy one. “The restrictions are going to be very tight. He’s going to wear an ankle bracelet that beeps every 45 seconds so Adult Probation knows exactly where he is,” Furber said.

Narick’s mom was asked to make sure that contrabands such as weapons and drugs should not be found at any given time at the house; otherwise, the judge will not hesitate to put him to jail. The decision was based on Narick’s offensive postings on his MySpace layouts. “I’ve watched myself nearly shoot a (derogatory term) in the head” and “I’ve just watched myself beat a 40 plus years sentence” and “I am my own hero.”

Well, he could not be more wrong, when asked by the judge: “What’s the matter with you Mr. Narick?” He simply replied, “I made a mistake.” This answer will not satisfy the judge as the young man has made several serious mistakes, some people are even concerned if he’s able to lead a normal life in a civilized society.

Narick was ordered to take psychological evaluation and delete all the social networking accounts he owns among which the most conspicuous one is on MySpace. He was allowed for a bail but new conditions such as house arrest were included.

Christopher Parisi, Assistant District Attorney holds the view that Narick should not be allowed for the bail because he failed to keep to the conditions of the initial bail. Narick somehow found his way to contact the victim in his pending case by posting threatening messages on the internet which violated the conditions. Meanwhile, Narick’s defense lawyer James P. Lyons couldn’t agree. “I think it was juvenile posturing more than anything else,” he said.

Anyway, Narick should be thankful that he was able to get out of some serious charges including attempted murder, aggravated and simple assault and propulsion of misseles into an occupied vehicle. All these started with an argument with Weller who dated the same girl as Narick did and can be viewed as his rival consequently. According to Narick, the WASR-10 semiautomatic rifle fired accidently when he walked towards Weller’s car and the jury bought his story.

However, the case is far from over, Narick still faces reckless endangerment and charges of possession of illegal drugs found at his home.

Believe it or not, you can market on forums and message boards without pissing anyone off. In fact, not only can you market this way, you SHOULD market this way, and I’ll tell you why later in this article. But for now, I’d like to point out that the reason I’m writing this article is because someone on an affiliate forum that I frequent got kicked out of an affiliate program for spamming a message board community. He’d posted his opinion of the affiliate product in the “personal opinions” section of the board, and the moderator of the community reported him to the merchant, who then kicked him out of the affiliate program.

There’s a big difference between expressing your opinion and marketing a product. Often the difference can be discerned as easily as discerning the tracking code in an affiliate URL for a product. I moderate at several forums online, and I despise dealing with spammers who think it’s okay to blatantly market to my readers without contributing anything of value to my community. So here are my rules for marketing on forums without pissing anyone off.

1- Participate in a forum that allows links to your website in your signature. If the discussion board doesn’t allow links in your signature, go find one that does.

2- PARTICIPATE in the forum. Ask pertinent questions. Make pithy observations. Answer others’ questions if you know the correct answers. Try to post something daily, maybe more often. Just be sure that you’re not just participating to get your link in front of people; participate in the forum in order to add value to the members’ experiences there. The rewards in terms of higher click-through’s and conversions are well worth it.

3- Include a link to your website in your signature file in a normal sized font.

That’s it. That’s all there is to it. How does this help your marketing? Well, you should be participating in forums at least partially related or of interest to the people who hang out in a forum. So some of them will click on your signature link just out of interest. And, if you post intelligently and often, you will gradually become recognized as an expert in that area. And that will make you more attractive. You’ll begin to get link exchange requests, links, and requests for help from indviduals on the forums. This is when you know your strategy is working.

Marketing on forums and message boards isn’t for the faint of heart, or for the lazy spammer. But if you’re willing to make appropriate effort, you’ll get appropriate returns.
